4/5/2017 8 Comments Lance’s Dog PatchWelcome to Lance's Dog Patch, a blog inspired by the star of the book Lance: A Spirit Unbroken. I’ve loved dogs since I was a kid and every single one I've owned has been great. However, Lance, a Border Collie, was the most unique. By rights, he should have been dead, a victim of animal cruelty, long before I ever met him. But, he had survived, and had quite a story to tell. I put it into words for him. I'll go into more detail on Lance throughout ensuing editions of “the Patch.” Blog Mission: My mission for this blog is to provide a combination of dog-themed humor, dog health care and safety tips, and to facilitate dog rescues. Lance’s Dog Patch will be a source of entertainment and information for you to contribute to and provide to others when you see something here you find worth sharing. Of course, feel free to honor us with your own favorite dog stories, photos, and info. Please invite your friends and family to visit us. Note: no gruesome videos or photos will appear on this blog. I do not present myself as a dog expert. I also don't consider myself a dog activist: that title goes to the people in the trenches doing the grunt work day in, day out. But, because of my experience with Lance, I feel comfortable labeling myself a dog advocate. While I was putting Lance's story to words, I realized I had to do something more than just complete the book. Writing about the life of a hard-luck but also die-hard dog isn’t enough unless it helps other dogs have better luck. To do something more, I formulated a three-point plan of action:
Thanks so much for visiting Lance's Dog Patch today. Lance and I look forward to providing you entertainment and information on a regular basis. What is it about canines that make 7 out of every 10 humans in this country describe themselves as"dog people?" How about you? Can you explain why you love dogs?

What an amazing book, one of the best I've ever read. I laughed, cried and was amazed by everything I read. I didn't want to put it down. I really got to know Lance and his owners. Thank you Walter Stoffel for sharing Lance with us.

Its heartwarming to know there is so much love for our furry friends. They give us so much joy, comfort and entertainment. I never realized how bright Border Collies were. Lance seem to do a good job of herding his father dog out and about. Remember... Lance is with you in spirit for his next walk.

Thanks so much for sharing. I was only vaguely aware of the Border Collie breed when I "bumped into " Lance. I quickly learned how energetic and smart they can be . And yes, when I take my current pooch Buddy on walks , we tread some of the same ground Lance did Lots of memories

I've always had German Shepherds. They're my favorite dogs, though I love all breeds. All of my dogs had different personalities. One of my shepherds, Lloyd, was a goofy dog who loved to eat rocks and whine and howl every time we were leaving. But if we took him in the car, he barked at everyone and everything. Then there was my 153 pound Zipper, I called him Zippy. He frightened everyone just by his size. And Scully, my best friend, who always gave unconditional love and loyalty. I was forced to rehome him during a really bad time in my life. I had lost my job and had no money to care for him. He passed away about 6 months later. I never forgave myself for that. I've had many other dogs throughout my life. My dogs all touched me in such different ways but each brought such joy in to my life. And I will never forget them. Sort of how Lance touched his family.

Thank you for doing your part to share information about dogs of this wonderful breed: Border Collies. They are remarkably intelligent, but that brings with it so many challenges that can be daunting for the unprepared. Let's hope that information leads to many more, and happier, homes for these deserving dogs!

Thanks Carmen. This blog is a work-in-progress. Actually kind of exciting. I'm trying to channel that 60s mind set " If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem" Lance has badgered me to get off my duff and do something for his brethren
